Lively and elegant, Torino is a city that looks to the future without forgetting its past. Building on a long tradition of innovation in the design and manufacturing realms, the city is again positioning itself as a point of reference in the Italian innovation scene thanks to UNESCO‘s recognition as ‘Creative Design City’.

The first Capital of Italy invites you to discover its ancient and modern history, the palaces and museums, the parks and tree-lined avenues, the river and the hills, the restaurants and historic coffee houses, the long colonnaded streets and the multi-ethnic neighbourhoods, the great events and the many little pleasures which have always made it unique, in a balance between the rational Roman town layout, the measured pomp of Piemonte baroque and the originality of the modern and contemporary architecture.

Torino must be discovered step by step strolling along its streets and piazzas; that is why there are some things by all means ‘to see’, ‘to do’, ‘to taste’ and ‘to know’.

PALAZZO MADAMA AND THE ROYAL POLE

The Royal Museums of Turin include some of the main historical excellences of the area: the Royal Palace, the Royal Gardens, the Royal Library and Armory, the Sabauda Gallery, the Archaeological Museum, Palazzo Chiablese and the Chapel of the Sacra Sindone. The Royal Museums of Turin offer a fascinating itinerary of history, art and nature that stretches over 55,000 square meters, with evidence ranging from prehistoric times to the modern age.

Mole Antonelliana and Museum of Cinema

The National Museum of Cinema is among the most important in the world for its rich heritage and the diversity of its scientific and educational activities.

The museum is housed in the Mole Antonelliana, the landmark monument and symbol of Torino. The Mole was initially conceived as a synagogue, before being bought by the Torino Municipality and made into a monument to national unity. Planned and begun by architect Alessandro Antonelli in 1863, it was the tallest brick building in Europe at the time. The panoramic lift was inaugurated in 1961. Today it still allows visitors to go up to the panoramic terrace which is 85 metres high and take in the amazing views of the city and the surrounding Alps.

Gala dinner at the Circolo Canottieri Esperia

Founded in 1886, the Esperia belongs to the historical, architectural and artistic heritage of the city of Turin. Silent oasis on the right bank of the Po, in the heart of the city between the Gran Madre church and Piazza Vittorio Veneto.

The historic building of the Canottieri Esperia company houses the restaurant of the same name, a unique place in a privileged position in the heart of Turin, for lunch and dinner on the banks of the Po with the suggestive scenery of Piazza Vittorio and the Murazzi.

The Egyptian Museum

The Egyptian Museum is the oldest museum in the world – and the second largest – dedicated entirely to Egyptian culture.

Research and internationalization are the areas in which the Egyptian Museum continues to invest to continue the path of growth and affirmation: a choice that does not appeal only to the scientific community, but to all those who recognize in the institution’s dynamism the ability to open up to an ever wider and heterogeneous audience.

The Cesare Lombroso Museum of Criminal Anthropology

The Museum of Criminal Anthropology of Torino University displays the Cesare Lombroso’s collections dating the second half of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries: anatomical preparations, drawings, photographs, bodies of crime, artisan productions and artistic, even valuable, made by interns in asylums and prisons.

Cesare Lombroso was an Italian doctor, anthropologist, academic philosopher and jurist as famous as he was discussed.

Turin nightlife

Torino is universally recognized as one of the most elegant cities in Europe but today it is also a capital of ‘good living’ and fun.

During the AGM it will be possible to get to know some of the fun places of the city: Piazza Vittorio, the Quadrilatero Romano and Piazzetta V Marzo – which host the most fashionable bars and restaurants – and take part to Bananamia, one of the oldest and most famous LGBTQ+ club events in northern Italy.

Walking tour Tuttaltrastoria

Tuttaltrastoria (‘not just any story’) is a city walking tour unique in its kind. Created as part of the ‘Friendly Piemonte’ project, the initiative is run by the Quore Association for the promotion of Torino and its region for the LGBTQ+ community.

The tour lasts around 2 hours and offers an unconventional perspective on the history of Torino and the Piemonte region through an evocative narration centred around the life of 12 illustrious figures who made their mark in our region, and, in some cases, inspired change.

From an investigation into the private life of these people unexpected events emerge, stories with details that have often been hidden by scholars and in official biographies.

Torino città magica tour

Torino is known to be the city of magic. Even on the municipality’s website, the books of the journalist Giuditta Dembech Torino Città Magica are quoted, explaining how the Piedmontese capital is crossed by mysterious energies neatly channelled along precise paths marked by monuments covered with esoteric symbols. Moreover, Torino – built at the confluence of two rivers Po and Dora, home to the Holy Shroud and to the famous psychic Gustavo Rol – is the only city in the world to be vertex in both Black and White Magic triangles. Together with London and San Francisco in the first, and with Prague and Lyon in the second.

This is an intriguing and unusual journey through disturbing faces, Masonic enigmas and esoteric symbols that will lead you – among other riddles – through the mystery of the Devil’s Gate, the ghostly dragons, the legend of the alchemical caves, up to the veiled woman holding the Holy Grail cup, under the careful eye of the best known ghosts.

Reggia di Venaria

La Venaria Reale is a grandiose estate just outside Torino. It is a natural and architectural masterpiece that was declared part of the World Heritage by UNESCO in 1997 as all the Royal House of Savoy residences. It reopened to the public in 2007 after completing the EU’s largest cultural restoration project to date.
The monumental palace or Reggia boasts some of the finest examples of universal Baroque as the elegant Hall of Diana or the imposing complex of the Juvarra Stables.

The Gardens of the Reggia bring together the ancient and the modern in a harmonious whole, a dialogue between archaeological sites and contemporary artworks.

With City Sightseeing you can discover the main attractions and the most remote corners of Torino comfortably seated on the red panoramic bus, to fully experience what the Piemonte’s capital can offer.

Tohousing

TOHOUSING (co-housing based in Torino) is the very first housing project targeting the LGBTQ+ community in Italy. 

Starting in January 2019, TOHOUSING is hosting vulnerable LGBTQ+ people, providing them with a safe house and the chance to overcome difficult living conditions through psychological support, training and work counselling.

While addressing the primary need of a safe house, TOHOUSING aims at improving the independence and well-being of LGBTQ+ people.

Thanks to the Local Public Housing Agency, the TOHOUSING project counts 5 apartments, hosting up to 24 guests. The residence is temporary and guests are welcome to stay till 10 months.
