About us - Coordinamento Torino Pride

The Coordinamento Torino Pride is a second level association which includes many of the LGBTQIA+ associations active in the city of Turin and Piedmont. Some other associations involved in supporting rights, secular values and the valorisation of the differences with which our causes intersect are also part of it.

The Coordination was born from the transformation of the committee established at the time for the organization of the 2006 Turin national Pride. In 2008 it joined ILGA Europe and subsequently became part of EPOA.

In addition to Pride, the Coordination celebrates every year the main LGBTQIA+ anniversaries including the World Day against Homophobia (17 May), the Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDoR, 20 November) and the Transgender Day of Visibility (TDoV, 21 March). Inside there is also a educational group that deals with awareness and information aimed at young people and adults.

Coordinamento Torino Pride work in different ways to achieve its own goals.

It organizes political, social and cultural initiatives about LGBTQIA+ people rights, to defend their identity and respect and to overcome all forms of prejudice and discrimination.

It take care about relationships of debate and dialogue with public administrations, political and trade union institutions, representatives of public education and religious faiths.

It seeks exchange and synergy with other organizations, student and youth associations and the women’s movement.

OUR BRIEF HISTORY

In 2006, the first organizing committee of the 2006 national Pride in Turin was formed, an event which counted 20,000 participants in the procession which took place from Porta Susa and, passing through Via Cernaia, reached Piazza Castello and continued up to Piazza Vittorio, theater of the final concert. After this experience the committee would transform into a second level association, the one we know today as Coordinamento Torino Pride.

In 2009, the second edition of Torino Pride took place after the first experience in 2006. From this moment on, Torino Pride would take place every year without interruptions, even during the pandemic experience of 2020 with a small symbolic presence in the square and online.

In 2011, thanks to the Coordinamento Torino Pride, the 15th annual ILGA Europe conference was hosted in Turin, transforming the city into the European capital of LGBTQIA+ rights for four days.

In 2016 the Coordinamento Torino Pride celebrates the tenth anniversary of the first edition with a large event with more than 100 thousand participants and a final concert in Piazza San Carlo. Other experiences are also tried out, including the Village at Torino Esposizioni and the first stand at the International Book Fair, an experience that will be repeated in the years to come.

In 2022, again thanks to the Coordinamento Torino Pride, the 29th Annual meeting of EPOA, the European Pride organization, was hosted, an occasion during which the organization formalized its intention to apply to host Europride 2027.
